RECIPE: Cowboy Cocktail

Saddle up! Is there anything that evokes the spirit of the old Wild West better than a vintage cocktail?

Ummm, well yes, actually. There are tons of things that can more effectively paint a picture of that particularly colorful period of American history. Like horses. And desperados. And dance hall girls. And saloons. And whisky.

Aha! See what I did there? Let’s belly up to the bar (mind you don’t kick over the spittoon!) and order up a Cowboy Cocktail . . .

Ingredients:

Combine ice, scotch and cream in a mixing glass. Shake well. Strain and serve in a cocktail glass.

NOTES:

Not surprisingly, mixing cream and ice with scotch basically just results in thick, sweet, spiked milkshake. And actually, if I had been the inventor of this drink, I probably would have named it a Highland Milkshake or some other silly, and let’s face it, more accurately descriptive moniker.

Being just a bit over 3 oz, it’s a nice little refreshing drink. I’d be inclined to have two — but ONLY two, otherwise I might not be able to climb back aboard my trusty horse who, ironically, is named ‘Highland Milkshake’. Kidding. I don’t have a horse. But if I did . . . I bet he’d be called ‘Whisky’.

Happy trails!
